Timothy B. McBride, retired tax and financial advisor, passed away on April 10, 2024 in Wyckoff, NJ. Widower to his beloved Marcia (d. 2021), father to Adam and his wife Sally, and grandfather to Max and Alex, Tim was a cherished member of the extended McBride family, and a friend to so many in the communities he adored, including Washington, D.C., Westhampton, NY, and Sea Island, GA.
Tim earned both a Law Degree (1975) and a Master of Law in Taxation (1980) from Georgetown University. He completed undergraduate work at Santa Clara University and served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force Logistics and Tactical Air Commands. Tim’s love of piloting extended into his later life, when he flew his own Beechcraft Bonanza as a licensed commercial pilot—volunteering his time training pilots, and shepherding rescue dogs to new homes through the non-profit, Pilots N Paws.
After fifteen years of private law practice, Tim joined McBride Enterprises of New Jersey, a real estate development and construction enterprise originated by his grandfather in 1898, where he retired as Chairman and CFO. A year later, Tim published a family history based on the memoirs written in 1956 by his Grandfather, Frank A. McBride, whose own father John emigrated to Paterson, NJ in 1863. Tim also served as the independent trustee for a multigenerational trust of an unrelated family for thirty years.
Tim was an active volunteer for Georgetown University since 1991, serving on the Board of Regents. His proudest achievement was co-founding the Real Estate Finance Initiative in 2005 and teaching the undergraduate course for seven years. In recognition of his support and service to the University, Tim received the Law Center’s Paul R. Dean Award in 1999, the Peter W. Gonzales, Jr. Award for Excellence in Adjunct Faculty Teaching, and was elected to the 1789 Society.
Tim was born in Paterson, New Jersey, and after completion of military service spent most of his life in Washington, D.C. Always an athlete, he was passionate about skiing and golf and loved doing them most with his son, Adam.
Tim’s legacy of integrity, generosity, and service will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Donations in his honor can be made to Georgetown University, Quogue Wildlife Refuge, or Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Georgia.
