Stephen L. McCabe, age 70, of Warwick, NY, died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at his residence. Stephen was born in Teaneck, NJ, grew up in Glen Rock, NJ and had lived in Greenwood Lake, NY before moving to Warwick, NY four years ago. Following his graduation from high school, Stephen was proud to serve in the US Army from 1973 until 1977 and following his Honorable discharge, he remained serving in the Reserves until 1979. He was employed for a brief period at the United States Post Office in Ridgewood before working at, Crompton and Knowles Corp., where he retired from his working career, following many years of employment. Stephen was not one who chose to be the center of attention or have an abundance of friends, rather, he preferred to remain on the quiet side and keep to himself, however, for those who knew him, he will be missed dearly. Stephen was an individual who you could say, “walked quietly and carried a big stick” for he touched the hearts of more people than even he realized. Stephen is survived by his step-sister, Margaret A. Larkin of Stafford, VA, his step-brothers, Theodore Fajardo of Bozeman, MT, William Fajardo of Ridgewood, NJ and Lawrence Fajardo of Hempstead, NH and his dear, longtime friend, Pamela Matheis. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Leo V. and Theresa (nee Fallon) McCabe, his step-mother, Frances McCabe and his twin sister, Theresa M. “Terry” McCabe. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 1, 2024, from 9:00 – 10:00 AM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. Followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at St. Catharine’s RC Church, 905 S. Maple Avenue, Glen Rock, NJ 07452, the interment will follow at Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes, NJ.
