Gen Douma

Clazina Genivieve (Wondergem) Douma, age 97, of North Haledon, died on February 25, 2026.  Fondly know as Gen to all family and friends. Gen was born on May 1, 1928, in Paterson, NJ to David and Jennie (Hagedoorn) Wondergem.  Gen grew up in Prospect Park, and then lived in North Haledon, Wayne, Wyckoff and finally back to North Haledon as a resident at Windmere (Formally the Holland Home) for the last 10 years.  Gen met her husband John of 52 years in Elementary school and reunited as teenagers and married on October 5, 1949.  Gen was a lifelong member of Unity Christian Reformed Church in Prospect Park, NJ.  She served in many roles at Unity, as a Sunday school teacher, member of the choir and booster club. While her husband was on Prospect Park Fire department, Gen served on the Women's Auxiliary.  After John passed Gen volunteered at the St. Josephs hospital in Wayne.  In her spare time Gen loved to knit, read and visit her grandkids.  She was blessed with 14 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren who were the light of her life.  She welcomed each new child with joy.  Gen's family is comforted to know that she is now residing with her Lord and Savior and free from pain.  

Gen is survived by her 3 children, Daughter, Janice Arkema and her husband David of New York, Daughter Leslie De Jong and her husband Robert of New Jersey, and Son, John Douma and his wife Donna of Virgina, as well as her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She also leaves behind her siblings, John Wondergem and his wife Beverly of Michigan, David Wondergem and his wife Sheryl and Betsy Fischer and her husband Gary of Texas, Connie Wondergem and Sister-in-law Anna Wondergem of New Jersey.  

Gen was predeceased by her loving husband, John Douma in 2001, beloved Daughter, Deborah Donkersloot in 2014 and son-in-law Walter Donkersloot Jr. in 2024, Her Brother Clarence Wondergem in 2006, and Sister, Laura Jean Jellema in 2025.

Gen's family invites all family and friends to celebrate her long life at a Memorial Service on Saturday March 7, 2026, 10:30 AM at Unity CRC, 339 North 11th Street, Propsect Park, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, Gen's family requests memorial contributions be made in her memory to World Renew, 8970 Byron Commerce Dr SW, Byron Center MI 49315.
