Obituary of Donald Barnie

Donald J. Barnie, age 92 of Ramsey, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 20, 2018.  Born and raised in New York City, Don came to Ramsey along with his wife Doris to raise their family in 1969.  He proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Rodman in the Pacific Fleet during World War II.  During his time aboard, the Rodman was hit by 3 Kamikaze planes during the battle of Okinawa.  Don spent his career as a draftsman for several manufacturers in the northeast. In his later career Don worked as a courier for the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.  Surviving are his devoted children, Walter E. and his wife Susan, Donald S., and Cathie and her husband Chris Zimmer.  Don also leaves his 6 grandsons, Seth, Matthew, Nick, Chris, Andrew, and Daniel, 3 great grandchildren and his sister-in-law Jean Conner-Tierney.  Don was pre-deceased by his adoring wife of 63 years, Doris Margaret Conner, in 2014.  The Barnie family will receive friends on Saturday 7:00 to 9:00 pm and Sunday 2:00 until 4:00 and 7:00 until 9:00 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff.  Funeral services will be held Monday 10:30 am at the Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in the Union Cemetery in Ramsey.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
