He earned a Bachelor’s degree in physical education from the University. Howard was named to the Bergen Record’s Best of the Century team as a wide receiver in 2000 and inducted into the River Dell Hall of Fame for football, basketball and track in 2008.

Howard was an avid horseman and outdoorsman and he loved music and history, but his greatest passion was his family.

Howard was a resident of Rivervale, New Jersey until he married his beloved wife, Linda (Heyer) and moved to a horse farm in Blairstown NJ in 2005 where they resided until retiring to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia in 2017.

Howard is survived by his loving wife Linda, his step-daughter Karen Porro and her husband, Steven, of Wyckoff, NJ; his stepson, Greg Krahenbuhl and his wife, Katie, of Wallington, NJ.  He was the adored grandfather of Gavin and Oliver Porro of Wyckoff. Howard is also survived by his mother, Christine Gerber of Kennesaw, GA; his sister Laura Anderson and her husband, Wallace, of Kennesaw, GA.  He was predeceased by his father, Howard Gerber and his brother Richard Gerber.
